Virtus Daily Blog #85 - The one you feed.

One evening, an elderly Cherokee brave told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.

He said, “my son, the battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside us all. One is evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is good. It is joy, peace love, hope serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.”

The grandson though about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “which wolf wins?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “the one that you feed.”

At any moment. I have two conflicting wolves inside of me, we all do.

Right now, those two wolves are centred around two different ideals.

  1. I have all that I need and more. I am incredibly grateful for the life I lead, who i am able to lead it with and the things that I get to fill my time with. I appreciate every moment, and have no need for more.

  2. I am inherently dissatisfied with my life. I work hard for more, I love to hustle and spend long days at work to create something incredible. To bring people together to cultivate a community of driven, likeminded people who want to make the world a better place.

Now, both of these things are true, and I could go one way or another with my beliefs, what I’ve come to understand is that they are both true. They both serve me, now and in the future.

The one that wins will be the one that I feed. For now, they both need to eat.
